ENLIGHTENMENT IS A JOKE
It strikes me that there is something analogous about the punchline of jokes to the way mystics often describe with the experience of enlightenment.
Take for example a typical, well-crafted joke (or gag, or prank), where a certain impression is carefully set up by the teller, at the conclusion of which the punchline is revealed - which in turn triggers a kind of “illumination” regarding everything the listener has learned up to then (sometimes even a complete reversal!). All that happened up to this point is suddenly reframed now in a more benign, expansive, and perhaps even joyous light.
That’s strikingly similar to what mystics have described in connection with the “Aha!” moment of enlightenment, where the circumstances of life are now seen differently, more expansively.
Is enlightenment the “punchline” of existence?

Enlightenment is a process, not a goal. Things and "self" become trans-lucent in moments of "enlightenment."
Shhhh, don't spoil the ending :)
